One more reason to stay on Metformin.  My Doctor has tried to get me to stop using it but so far I have resisted. 
Type 2 since 1993.  Control with Metformin and LCHF diet.  76 YY

Almost makes me want to go back on it!! But doubt my pcp would prescribe it as he considers me "cured".  :(

T-2 dx 2/2012 FBG 243 A1c 9.5%
6/2012 A1c 5.7%  In the 4% A1c club since July 2013. 12-2016 A1c 5.1%. 6-2018 A1c 5.3%.
No meds since 3/2015, diet controlled.  Minimal exercise.

Recently, my wife told me about a patient she was seeing who’s was being given, among other things, metformin to help treat a somewhat ill-defined psychiatric disorder. While it’s effectiveness used for that is questionable, it’s interesting to see it used off label in that way.

An interesting survey would be to attempt to find out what drugs are used off label along with results. I suspect many pharmaceuticals have as yet unidentified uses in treating illness that are not reported.
