Check the labels on the shakes - a good rule of thumb is if any food contains more than 5g of carbs, we don't eat it. My guess is an 8oz shake has more than 5g. Also check the labels for sugars and sugar alcohols (these can spike blood sugar just like sugar), and of course if these shakes are low-fat, that is contrary to the LCHF plan you're using.

Another thing we haven't covered is that too much protein can be a problem too. Our bodies need just enough protein to build/maintain/repair tissue, and if we take in more protein than is needed, it can spike blood sugar and be stored as fat besides. You can explain these things to your trainer, along with the fact that you're diabetic and only need the exercise - not his dietary advice.

I would also say, tread with caution. Our Way of Eating is Low Carb, Moderate Protein & High Fat. Moderate can be defined as 0.8 - 1.2 gm per kg of lean body weight, 0.8 for sedentary & 1.2 for very active.

Lean Body Weight is your height in cms - 100, more or less.
You can do your own calculations & decide accordingly. Take the help of your meter for all desicions.
