Cussed thunderstorms!
« on: May 20, 2017, 01:19:44 AM »
For the second night in a row, electrical storms have knocked out the power here. My biggest gripe is - why always at night when I need my CPAP?! Grrrr . . .  Thinking of getting a battery-powered back-up generator - just for the CPAP. Wonder what they cost?

But tonight it did worse than a power outage, it apparently fried the battery in my laptop. The other possibility is that it just 'hid' it, and tomorrow when I'm more wide awake, I'll tinker a little & try to get the machine to recognize the battery again.

Yep.....I'm with you about the thunderstorms.  I also use a CPAP machine and it is hard enough to sleep some nights with it, to say nothing of having no electricity.

As long as I have CPAP on and a fan blowing over me, I can fall asleep in about three seconds! CPAP is my blankie, I guess, because I can't fall asleep without it ever. I even tried wearing the mask these nights when the power was off, because I wondered if it isn't the sensation of having the mask on that helps.

I <3 my CPAP!  ;D  And this week I got new cushions for all my masks, so now I'm REALLY in love! ha!

No CPAP here, but when the power goes out, I don't have water.  :(
  My pump runs on electricity.

Yep, our well pump is also electric, but several gallons of water are stored in a pressure tank under the house, so a small amount of water is available. We're okay if nobody flushes a toilet during a power outage, but that's hard to remember - flushing is a reflex!  ;D

I keep gallons and gallons of water in my storage cubby for just that reason.  I hear you re the flush reflex, but fortunately I have 3 bathrooms so I get a lot of mileage there!

edit to add:  I lived through the drought in Ca in the 70's there was a saying "if it is yellow, let it mellow, if it is brown, flush it down.  So that lingers over my flush reflex...

We also have our own well here and our pumps are solar with a 220v pump for backup.  Power doesn't go out here as we are on our own solar system with a 20K diesel backup generator.  We pump water to two 4500 gallon tanks on the hill so normally 8-9000 gallons of water standing by.  Of course that will change when we move.
