Natural ways to reduce blood sugar? are these true...
« on: March 14, 2016, 10:10:42 PM »
I came across this article (https://thetruthaboutcancer.com/oncologists-get-proven-wrong/) which mentions the below:
Do anyone of you take this and is it helpful?

Some dietary supplements may also help maintain healthy blood sugar levels.

Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA): 300 mg/day
 Vitamin B6 (as pyridoxine): 100 mg/day
 Berberine: 400-500 mg/day
 Cinnamon: 1 gram/day (food quantity)
Fenugreek: a daily supplement of 15 g of powdered fenugreek seed significantly reduces blood glucose levels after meals

I used to take R-ALA with biotin, but I haven't used it for years. For me, additional supplements never helped as much as keeping to LCHF conscientiously, and they can run into some serious money too.

Otto H Warburg was awarded the Nobel in 1931 for what is known as "The Warburg Effect" or how cancer cells thrive on Glucose. It's not as if the connection between Sugar & Cancer is new. Doctors have known this since 1925.

The PET scan uses FDG (fluro deoxy glucose) which is injected as the radioactive substance. Yet they insist that the cancer-sugar connection is a myth.

When I was first diagnosed, I searched around online, hoping to find information on various supplements or other ways to deal with diabetes.  Some of the sites I ran across suggested:  apple cider vinegar, taken daily; cinnamon is often listed as beneficial; B12 supplements.  There were other suggestions too.  In my anxious state, I tried the apple cider vinegar and B12.  I saw no actual benefit and even when you dilute apple cider vinegar in water, it tastes pretty nasty.  I guess a person could get used to it if they drank it every day, but I didn't have the fortitude.

My best results have come with a combination of Metformin (in my case, I take the lowest dose) and LCHF.  It also helps me to take a walk 3-4 times a week, although that seems to benefit my blood pressure most.

Oh, I've tried all kinds of traditional tricks & many of the supplements as well. I think the list is too long for me to remember. I found a couple of those things (like ACV & Chromium) helped for a few days & then my 2nd brain (the liver) took over & brought me back to my 'normal' numbers or vice versa.

Until I found the one thing that works for me - Not allowing my numbers in the 'red' territory by eating in a way that eliminates glucose contributing foods.  ;)

It is interesting to me that this question came up now.  Last week I added 400mg of Berberine to my supplement regimen.  I have tried R-ALA and several other supplements with no real noticed advantage.  I take biotin for my hair loss and a couple other vitamins and a multi for seniors.  I haven't changed anything in my diet or supplement plan and after just a week with the berberine, I am down a good 10-15 points throughout the day.  I wasn't going to say anything at this point as I wanted to wait and see if this was a fluke or not.  Could be this is working for me in addition to a very strict vlc/hf woe.
