Internet Speed
« on: August 04, 2017, 07:34:29 PM »
I'm curious to know what sort of internet connectivity members use and what speeds they get.

I use a broadband connection from my telephone service at home & office and get about 6 Mbps download speed while uploads are at 1.5 Mbps. I sometimes use my 4G mobile service to connect and then the speeds can be 3 times faster.

My download speeds run around 30 Mbps via cable internet and Wifi to my iPad. Upload speeds I think are 10-12 Mbps but I haven't checked lately.

My cable provider advertises their speeds at twice that amount, but I live far from a hub. I don't really use my phone much as there's no cell service where I live but I know it would be much slower.

I'm in somewhat the same situation as John, except even more remote; there's no cable out here & we only use the cell phone when we're away from home, because there's essentially no signal here - maybe one bar or less. Our DSL comes with our landline phone service.

I have no idea what my speeds are, but I'm sure very slow!

I use a broadband service that is part of a "bundle" pkg which includes satellite service for television, phone and internet service.  I used to have a website where I could check the speeds but I've lost track of that website.  We live in the rural area of a metropolitan area.  There is a city of over 150,000 about 12 miles from our house.

I too am in a rural area. I get service through a phone line. I have no idea what my speeds are, but like Shanny, I expect they are slow.

In the old house we were in a rural area and the only service was satellite for internet and that was slow compared to broadband.  At the new house I have cable for internet and it is pretty fast.  The plan I have has 100Mbps download speeds and 10Mbps upload speed and my monthly cap is 1000 GB.  This allows for streaming movies which was not possible on the satellite connection.  I ran a couple of speed tests and actually got 127 Mbps down and 16 Mbps up so it looks like it is as good as advertised although I am sure it will vary depending on how many are connected at various times.

@skb, Speed is mis-spelt in the heading.

My home connection is 100 Mbps and I think I do get that speed. At the workplace we use a virtual network for security reasons, so the speeds might be slower than the actual. But Singapore is pretty good in internet connectivity.

You can test the speed of your ISP's net connection using a tool like this:
