A while back it was popular to use a standing desk and they were being installed in some work environments.  I think that people were not too impressed with  the results and it seems that the idea has kind of dropped off. 
I do agree that sitting for long periods of time are not good for you and that is why I try to get up and walk at least every hour during the day.  Right now I try to walk at least 500 steps each hour for the 10 hours from 8 AM to 5 PM and the Stepz app keeps a record of that.  I honestly don't know how much good it does but it makes me feel better about myself.
