Insulin needs, change

Something our T1 friends might be interested in. It’s a study on change in insulin requirements and rise in A1c levels in teenage children.

Thanks, SKB, interesting bit. Can’t begin to imagine how parents deal with T1 kids!

Well, my grand-niece down in Arkansas was diagnosed at nine months of age, and put on a pump as soon as possible. They were lucky that her daddy has good insurance, and since she was so young when diagnosed, she doesn't know anything else but pumping. She was still pretty young when she started taking care of it herself, so apart from observing, help from her parents or others wasn't necessary. She is 17 years old now, has finished high school & does very well.

My oldest grand daughter was dx'd T1 when she was 6 or 7. She has been on the pump/ off the pump and back on the pump and is doing very well. She has been a competitive skier for years. She is 19 now and just finishing her first year of college. It was hard on her parents (my son & wife) at first but with good medical coverage and a son that was an EMT they got through the hard part and now GD takes good care of herself on her own.
