Site Navigation 01
« on: April 15, 2016, 03:38:06 AM »
A lot of members are having some difficulty in navigating & understanding the site's functionality. We keep getting messages & indications of that through several posts. So, here's an attempt to make things a little bit easier. If you click on the attachment to this post, an image of the top panel (above the boards) will open up. There are numbers given besides, each element, and here's a brief look into what some of them are for / can do.

1.  Is the red logo of The Diabetic Pub. Clicking on that will take you to the Diabetic Pub website home page, no matter where you are. The logo is placed in the very light blue panel on the topmost part of the screen which is known as Top Header

2.  Also in the Top Header are 3 links to our website. These links have a mouse over effect. They become dark when the mouse pointer goes over them. The links open relevant pages from our website.

3.  Below the Top Header resides the Header panel, right up-to the thin black line that you can see. On the extreme right is an icon which, when clicked will collapse / expand the header panel.

4.  In the header panel, is the User welcome which shows Avatar (if any), date & time. Also shown are the likes notification, which when clicked will open up the last few likes given to any posts / your posts.

5. Is the Search window in the Header panel. You can search keywords which will open up posts containing those words. These posts will highlight the words searched for. Below this is a scrolling News panel, which has been disabled at the moment, and at present gives a static welcome message.

6.  Is the Main Menu in the Header section. This also has a mouse over effect. The highlighting is Orange for the option that is selected. Where available, further drop down options will open to help take you to what you are looking for. Clicking the Home button will get you to the Forum Index page from anywhere.

7.  Is the Link Tree or the Forum / Board Menu. It will indicate your present location within the forum. All of the Forum Board names are clickable and will take you direct to the page of your choosing.

8.  Is the Right Panel collapse / Expand button. Clicking this will stop displaying the right side panel, if more space is what you are looking for. Collapsing the right panel while reading this will make the entire attachment image visible on the screen. These collapse / expand buttons are also availble on each of the individual right panels.

We shall continue to post further Site Navigation tips within the next couple of days. If you have any queries / questions on this one, do let us know.

Very good idea . . . but can you make the corresponding numbers more noticeable, like a red arrow pointing to them or circle drawn around them? I didn't tumble to it right away, but then I just got outta bed too & haven't had my caffeine kickstart . . .  :o

I wonder if people are just so accustomed to vBulletin format, they aren't picking up on this.

Thanks, Shanny. It's done. Put red circles around the numbers so people cannot miss them. I should have thought about that.

Thanks SKB, most of this should probably be fairly obvious but for dummies like me it helps to have an explanation and a picture really is worth a thousand words.  Good job and it's appreciated.

Thank you for the guided tour. I should say that I am one of the first time member of any internet community and this helps a lot. Look forward to further addition to the Site navigator.

The Control + Scroll tip from the FAQ was very helpful also. I have difficulty in reading the small size of the posts.

Oops. Sorry about that. Actually the forum s/w auto-deletes attachments after a few days. We'll look into that and reinstate the attachments.

Edit : Image attached. All Site Navigation threads are updated.

Thanks to Vahit, I've got a refresher course in Site Navigation. Didn't know about the Collapse buttons and never tried them. Though I'm pretty good with a PC, I always learn something new everyday. Thanks.  ;D
