Commonly used acronyms & abbreviations

A1c or HbA1c: test showing the percentage of hemoglobin that has glucose attached

ADA/CDA: American Diabetes Association/Canadian Diabetes Association

BG or BS: blood glucose or blood sugar.
BGL or BSL: blood glucose level or blood sugar level.

BH: better half
OH: other half

BMI: body mass index

BMR: basal metabolic rate

BP: blood pressure

BPC: bullet proof coffee

CDA/ADA: Canadian Diabetes Association/American Diabetes Association

CDE: certified diabetes educator

CGM: continuous glucose monitoring system

CHO or carbs: carbohydrates

CO: coconut oil

CVD: cardiovascular disease

D: diabetes of any type

DH: dear husband
DW: dear wife
DD: dear daughter
DS: dear son
DIL: daughter-in-law
SIL: son-in-law

DKA: diabetic ketoacidosis. A condition of high blood sugar combined with low or no insulin, which can cause coma and even death

DP: dawn phenomenon

DM: diabetes Mellitus

Dx: diagnosis

Endo: endocrinologist

ER: emergency room
OR: operating room

FBG or FBS: fasting blood levels

GABA: Gabapentin

GAD: glutamic acid decarboxylase. GAD antibodies in the blood indicate type 1 or 1.5 diabetes

GI: glycemic index
GL: glycemic load

GP: general practitioner

GTT or OGTT: glucose tolerance test & oral glucose tolerance test

HbA1c, HA1c, HgA1c: glycosylated hemoglobin

HBP: high blood pressure/hypertension

HFCS: high fructose corn syrup

HWC: heavy whipping cream

JERF: just eat real food

KR: ketogenic ratio

LADA: latent autoimmune diabetes of adults

LC: low carb

LCHF or LC/HF: low-carb/high-fat way-of-eating (WoE)

MDI: multiple daily injections

mg/dl: milligrams per deciliter - unit of measuring blood sugar in the US.
mmol/l: millimoles per liter - unit of measuring blood sugar in most of the rest of the world

MODY: maturity onset diabetes of the young

N=1: And experiment with the subject size being one person - you. Normally used to describe anecdotal evidence.

OGTT: oral glucose tolerance test

PCOS: polycystic ovary syndrome

PCP: primary care physician

PP: postprandial

PWD: person with diabetes

RH: Reactive hypoglycemia

RLS: restless leg syndrome
